By the end of Year 1 your child should be able to:

  • Describe changes within living memory. Use these to reveal aspects of change in national life.
  • Talk about events beyond living memory that are significant nationally e.g. the Great Fire of London.
  •  Find out about the lives of significant individuals in the past who have contributed to national and international achievements e.g. Christopher Columbus.
  •  Find out about significant historical events, people and places in their own locality.                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                      

By the end of Year 2 your child should be able to:

  • Describe events beyond living memory that are significant nationally or globally e.g. World War Il.
  • Find out about the lives of significant individuals in the past who have contributed to national and international achievements. Some should be used to compare aspects of life in different periods e.g. Elizabeth I and Queen Victoria.
  • Research and talk about significant historical events, people and places in their own locality.
